Exciting things are currently happening in Hobart – Namely MONA FOMA. MONA FOMA, [or MOFO as it is more colloquially known as], is an annual music and art festival held in January each year – this year is all the more exciting due to the impending opening of the MONA Museum [Museum of Old and New Art]. I was lucky enough last year to get a site tour of the museum while it was still under construction with uni – and just quietly, it is possibly one of the most incredible buildings I have ever seen in a long while. Shall definitely win some awards.
This years stand outs? Brook Andrew’s art installation ‘The Cell’ – [Imagine a giant striped enclosed jumping castle that adults are allowed in provided you suit up in a matching striped jumpsuit – ridiculous fun], string quartet Fourplay [they covered the Doctor Who theme - awesome], Sydney based duo Kyü – the list goes on and there is a lot more to come with the huge opening party next weekend.
The coolest bit? It’s free.
