Welcome to the work of my  super lovely friend, Matthew Prince.

The work pictured here is Matt's Fit collection designed for Derlot Editions. [Photography by Florian Groehn]

The fit Shelves meet an identified need a simple yet flexible storage system that can be adapted to fit a variety of environments. Distribution and transportation are also factors that have driven the development of this design. Timber legs and metal surfaces are produced as individual components. In this state, a Fit Shelving unit (available in 1000, 1950 and 2900mm lengths) is knocked down for minimal volume packaging and shipping. Once the leg and surface components are assembled, using the supplied fixings, modules can be stacked and arranged to fit a particular space or need. Each Fit module is ergonomically proportioned to be used as a sturdy bench seat to accompany the Fit table range.

The thing I really love about Matt's work is his attention to detail. For example, last year he knocked up a simple breadboard for me to give my Mum for Mother's Day with an off-cut from his workshop - and then he wouldn't let me take it until it had been sanded perfectly.

The Fit Collection is available through Derlot and Stylecraft - which will be launched this weekend as part of Saturday in Design. You'll be able to see them on display in Melbourne's Stylecraft showroom at 145-149 Flinders Lane this Saturday and Sunday. Pop by and say hi!
